It’s been an exciting Spring 2008 as Zotters.org merged with AnteaterForum.com into a slick new website with many combined features. As we researched various additions to the site, we decided to design a community blog into the heart of the new system to which we hope many new bloggers will decide to contribute.

Welcome to College 2.0. In the face of mass-education and catering to the systematic demands of the Man, it is time to bring the university experience to a new level of information exchange. Back in the day, universities were founded on the purpose of being an intellectual “marketplace of ideas.” Fast forward to 2008, however, and we observe a university system that has become no more than a microcosm of our politically-correct, media-driven, corporate society. As globalization takes communication and social classes to a new point of pseudo-individualism, the core of the college experience has become a pussified, fear-of-being-sued, diplomas-for-all and get-the-hell-out education machine that lacks innovation, creativity, debate, and the exchange of ideas on which it was originally founded.

With this new community blog concept joined with our other online features, Zotters.org hopes to spur on at UCI an adaptive environment of user-contributed and user-exchanged higher education. We foresee this blog to be practically unlimited in scope, as both an academic highway, a cultural narrative, and anything else under the sun that excercises the free and unafraid exchange of concepts and ideas.

We invite writers of all styles and backgrounds to become part of this community. We are seeking many types of content: politics, pop culture, lifestyles and entertainment, scientific research, artistic expression, tutorials, etc. (excluding creative writing) that can engage the southern California community in which UC Irvine resides but might also benefit thousands of readers around the globe. Our vision of a community blog in and of itself is in no way an original idea — however, we hope that by avoiding any true “online niche” we might launch a grand experiment to observe the true potential of one of the greatly influential micro-societies we see within universities.

If you are interested, please email the following to admin@zotters.org:

  1. full name, email address, and Zotters.org username if applicable
  2. your relation to UCI and/or Orange County, and a bit about yourself
  3. a few writing samples from the above mentioned categories
  4. anything else you’d like us to know about you, or any ideas you have

Contributors will be expected to submit around 1-3 blog posts each week, or however often they like. No long-term contract or obligation is required, but steady contributors and highly-rated contributors will receive priority in case of future hiring at Zotters.org. Thanks! We look forward to hearing from you! :)
